Presenter Abstract & Bio
Innovating for soft skills
Cameron Paterson, Brett Kriedemann and Carmelo Aragone, Shore School, North Sydney
Conference Focus Area: Empowers and Engages
The nature and pace of change brings into focus an acceptance that the skills students need now and in their futures extend far beyond those required by young people in previous times.
More thinking is needed around curriculum design for learning that matters to the lives our students, who will go on to lead in a world which has an increasing focus on ‘soft skills’.
This workshop will explore the ethnographic research, prototyping and iteration that has informed the development of new pedagogical approaches at our school.
Through innovative interdisciplinary thinking, we have developed new practices specifically targeting student dispositions and teacher agility within a unit of work. We will consider the imperative to explore different pedagogical practices and we will look at our successes and failures.
What does this look like in our context - and how might it look in yours?
