Keynote Biography - Yasodai Selvakumaran

Yasodai Selvakumaran - Head Teacher, Rooty Hill High School and Department of Education Teacher Ambassador, School Operations and Performance
 

Joining this conference as a keynote speaker is award-winning educator, Yasodai Selvakumaran. She is Head Teacher Professional Practice and History and Society and Culture Teacher at Rooty Hill High School. In 2019, she was a top ten finalist for the Global Teacher Prize out of 10,000 nominations from 179 countries.

Yasodai recently returned from Dubai in March 2019 from the Global Education Skills Forum where the Global Teacher Prize was announced.  In 2018, Yasodai was 1 of 12 Educators recognised with an Australian Schools Plus and Commonwealth Bank Teaching Award. With this, she participated in a study tour to Singapore in July 2018 and the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement in Stavanger Norway in 2019. 

 

In 2014, she won the Australian Council of Educational Leadership NSW Mary Armstrong Award for Outstanding Young Educational Leader.  Rooty Hill High School has been named as one of Australia’s 40 most innovative schools in 2016 and 2017 (The Educator Magazine). In 2017, Yasodai herself was recognised as one of 30 rising stars under the age of 35 in Australian education by The Educator Australia magazine.  Yasodai is currently studying post-graduate studies in Education Research part-time at Deakin University and is a proud member of the executive of the Australian Curriculum Studies Association.
